One, things can look real trashy real quick with just any top paired with funky, busy, denim shorts like mine. The right top (and overall styling of the outfit) can make you look cool and well put together or really crazy. And trust me looking crazy is a vibe too, so no judgments from me about that. We stylists credit some of those wild looks to those with more creative or eclectic style sensibilities. All in all, I say pick a top wisely and make sure it fits how you want to appeal in the end.

I particularly would not style these funky looking denim shorts to look this unappealing, but everyone’s entitled to their own taste, right? I just feel like the shorts look like they would fall off the model in a split second. 

On the other hand, my top for these funky shorts I have on came after owning the shorts for over a year.  No other blouse seemed to bring out the vibe I aimed for until this top came along and the funny thing is as soon as I tried on the top I immediately had an aha moment imagining these shorts styled with it. 

Ok, back to the points. The second problem with this funky style of shorts is, if you over-accessorize it, your whole outfit can appeal overwhelming, mainly because the piece already looks busy. Accessorizing wisely is key to rocking these busy types of denim shorts, believe me, you want to tilt on the uber-cool side of the scale with this one.

I took a risk in adding this choker to my outfit here, but I liked the overall appeal so it made the cut. 

Finally, the third potential issue I find with this funky style of denim shorts is if you rock it with a slouchy attitude you can easily look whack in it. I mean, look at the piece, it looks funky for a reason; it basically has a sassy ‘tude’ that needs an equally confident attitude to compliment it and keep that same vibe. That’s the best way to wear one of these daring, edgy pieces, take my word for it.
